Security

Where to start?
eedomus is ideal for protection of your home or office.
When protecting a home or office, particularly when absent, it is recommended to :
- Use a sticker to indicate that the location is under video surveillance or alarm
- Set up a light system to simulate presence (or movement)
- Have enough detectors to be informed with certainty of all activity (and cameras to record the facts)
- Program actions (Sirens, lights, SMS, etc) as a last resort, after everything was done to discourage intruders
Panorama uses - security of goods and people
Security configurations can be customized according to the buildings and security needs. In any case, deterrence is fundamental.
Activity Detection
If you don't want to spend huge amounts of money in an alarm system to protect your house, we have the solution for you.
With eedomus, you can have a first reasonable approach to keep an eye on your home thanks to the activity detectors - Be informed in case of activity at home when there should be none.
To improve the quality of your security, it is better to have multiple sensors. This will also permit you to minimize false alarms.
An IP camera allows the checking of an intrusion. It is your responsibility to call the police (make sure to carry around the direct number) if an image confirms an intrusion.
Use the program "Activity Detection" (forthcoming), which will notify you by email or SMS.
Outdoor Activity Detection
The home's yard and garden are prime areas to be monitored. Unfortunately, there is no detector that is 100% reliable for detecting an intruder's presence, or differentiating an animal from a human being.
In order of decreasing reliability, we propose:
- Opening detectors (door, shed, ...), the most reliable
- Motion detectors (PIR), detect animals (technology does not permit to differentiate a couple of pigeons from a human moving slowly).
- Cameras detecting image changes can detect motion of the trees by the wind (or birds or bees through the lens).
In the case of detecting an opening, you can use the programming presence monitoring.
Upon detection of movement or change of image outdoors, the best answer is certainly to discourage turning on lighting indoor / outdoor. Use the program "New light on movement time" (forthcoming).
Lighting Simulation
Along with warning signs or stickers, the lighting of interior lights have a strong deterrent effect:
- using the usual automatic lighting,
- or using the program simulation of presence, which will randomly turn on/off the selected lamps.
Be warned in case of visitor
With a communicating door bell or chime, you can be alerted (at a distance) if someone rings at the door when the alarm is activated. When the alarm is turned off, the bell functions normally.
Example of bell : Everspring chime
There are also door video camera systems that are compatibles with eedomus.
Cameras
Cameras, either internal or external, are now the key element of effective surveillance systems, both for the detection of intruders or for verification of known activity.
We suggest using both external and internal cameras. Exterior cameras are visible, thereby providing a strong deterrent. Interior cameras are less susceptible, and can provide visual confirmation of intruders or activity. We discourage the use of dummy cameras, which are considered false good ideas by most professionals.
Auto-monitoring intrusion
The principle of self-monitoring is to get yourself an SMS (or email), if an intrusion is detected.
However, self-monitoring can be stressful. If you receive an SMS, you need to know is the alarm valid or not.
It is said that about 99% of alarms received at a central surveillance station are false alarms (human error or false detection of a sensor). It is quite probable that an alarm received is an anomaly.
The main errors include: the false detection of a PIR (remember that this technology is not 100% reliable), the failure of a sensor, the forgetting to disarm the alarm, or batteries that wear out.
Self-monitoring would have these same risks.
Therefore, to limit the stress, thus facilitating the removal of doubt, it is advised that you have multiple devices. We recommend at least: two cameras and three detectors. A single alert is not enough to worry about.
It is also desirable to provide an access code (user side) to a person that can be disturbed at night to check.
In case of actual invasion, it is advisable to provide oneself with the local number of law enforcement. If you have pictures confirming an intrusion, the police should be responsive. You can also ask neighbours to call relatives.
Configuration example
The Smart Protection pack is one recommended approach containing: presence detection, opening, images, and most importantly two switches to illuminate lamps and deter intruders. Such an arrangement is ideal for apartments (typically only one door to watch).
Doubling the pack can provide extra comfort, and tripling can provide strong backup to help remove doubts in case of false detection.
The pack can also be complemented by:
- doubling the devices (opening detector, etc)
- adding an activation/deactivation device
- adding sirens
- adding Dash buttons or DHCP detectors for arming/disarming devices
