Protection service

eedomus is offering a new eedomus Protection service to protect the outside of the home.

It's based on detecting people on camera images. It is therefore particularly suited to gardens and courtyards. It is also useful indoors in place of PIR or radar detectors, which often wrongly detect pets.

Its aim is to provide a quality outdoor alarm, in addition to intruder surveillance, to ensure the safety of property and people.

There is a charge for this service, but it is much cheaper than traditional remote surveillance. It includes the Premium service.

You can now enable/disable the notification (from the "programming" part):

Take the time to test the service to check that there are no false alarms, if not, increase the threshold to 0.8.

Reliable detection of persons

The quality of the detection offered is important, in order to avoid false detections as far as possible. It is very annoying to be woken up at night during the holidays because a cat sets off a detector. The aim is to be more effective than a traditional alarm system, especially outdoors.

Camera detection also allows detection at a distance of more than 10 m, whereas PIR or radar detects at less than 5 m, with false alarms caused by the movement of birds and leaves, respectively.

Compatible with your existing cameras

You can use any type of camera that is compatible with eedomus, i.e. that can send images to the eedomus ftp server. The camera must send enough images when it detects motion.

You can improve this by attaching a PIR or radar to the automatic image capture. It is important to refine the sending of images.

For this, you can use outdoor cameras that are waterproof and, above all, have zoom or wide-angle lenses, integrated infrared illumination or high sensitivity (such as Hikvision's ColorVu technology). A camera with a 20° horizontal zoom, or even less, offers a very good view of a door or gateway at 10 m, and a quality resolution on faces, which wide-angle cameras cannot offer.

Detection is done on the eedomus platform, and works even if your eedomus box is not connected. The images can be viewed even if your internet access is cut off.

Preventive actions on detection

You can program an interior or exterior light to automatically switch on if an intruder is detected, to deter or prevent an intrusion. You can do this with a simple outdoor detector, but doing so with a camera will also alert you to the presence of an intruder.

You can also program the sending of an SMS/Push/Mail notification (if you are completely absent, and a presence is unlikely).

You can also activate a progressive notification (Push, then SMS, then Voice) Notifications, to several people, or neighbours who accept it.

In case of intrusion, you can call the police (using the local number 01) or ask a neighbour to call 17. This should only be done if you have a photograph proving that an intrusion has taken place. The police can intervene quickly (faster than the 30 minutes it takes security guards to clear up any doubts).

Configuration

Simply tick the cameras in question, and the type of notification you want (or presence simulation light).

You can modify the confidence threshold, which defaults to 0.7. We recommend a threshold between 0.7 and 0.8. We recommend a threshold between 0.7 and 0.8. At 0.8, you will have virtually no false alarms. Some objects, such as clothes or drying clothes, can be mistaken for people, especially if they are moving.

The confidence level is more reliable for people as a whole, without too much masking by leaves. Detection is best if objects are not too far away, and on fixed cameras.

The most important thing is to set the cameras to send the right number of images when motion is detected. We can advise you on this depending on the brand.

You can see the detections by filtering on images with motion (and start with a lower threshold at 0.6 for example).

Limits

Premium service limits apply to the number of images and SMS messages that can be processed/sent per account.

The service is new, and we will adapt resources if necessary. However, a limit of 4 cameras has been added for the launch of the service.

The proposed service can be considered experimental, so please do not hesitate to inform us of any detection errors.

The service is not designed for continuous video recording, for which a local video recorder is preferable, and is fully complementary to this service.

For data protection purposes, the processing is done on the eedomus servers. The images never leave the eedomus platform.
