Opening gates or garage doors

You can open your gate or garage door by eedomus, provided your motor has an appropriate control input. Most motors have such an input, typically they are by contact.

To generate a contact input (generally a pulse, and not a prolonged contact), you can utilise:

  • a Fibaro relay or Qubino (Z-Wave), with 3 configured parameter to generate the pulse
* You can also use a double relay, ex Fibaro FGS221 to control 2 inputs (generally a partial opening and a full opening)
* There are radio relays in 220 Volt AC or in 12 or 24 Volt DC
  • or an IPX800(Ethernet) that has 8 connections (Fugitive mode), simply controlled by one HTTP command
  • or a battery operated Electric door opener (012501).

Next you can add a remote or a Battery operated switch (associated solely to the box, then add a rule that engages the contact when the switch is pushed).

Open or closed

In general it is the same pulse that can open or close a gate. Because of this, when performing an operation at a distance, one does not know if the gate is open or closed. The best solution - install a camera!

During the gate installation

Typically, a command cable is already present (for the interphone in the house). The IPX800, placed in the house, can use this cable from the gate. For a telephonic gate automation, a wired connection is preferred to a radio connection.

Shutter automation

For the automation of shutters, it is first necessary to ensure that each shutter is equipped with a (tubular) motor.

The motor can be controlled by a relay adapted for shutter motor control (type Fibaro FGR 222 or Qubino).

We recommend the installation of a wired relay switch next to the shutters. You will place the relay behind this switch.

You will then have both a local manual control and a eedomus system command (smartphone, PC, agenda).

Note: Please check that you have phase/neutral available at the switch.
Note: partial openings may be sometimes difficult, to quite difficult, to adjust.

Bells - Chimes

In addition to opening, you can use a connected bell (brand Everspring TSE03 and TAC06), consisting of a push button and a chime.

When your visitors push on the button, the chime sounds, and the box eedomus receives this information. The eedomus box can alert you if so desired (i.e. if the alarm is activated).

You can also equip your current doorbell with a Fibaro Universal (dry contact that transmits the current system and inform eedomus).

How to control or to program openings?

Once the motor controller is in place, you can control your shutters/garage door/... by:

  • by smartphone (with the iPhone app, Android, or mobile website)
  • by remote control (Z-Wave)
  • by calendar (day of the week, time), using for example the Planning Programming
  • at sunset / sunrise (you can follow this guide)

Installation during construction

If there was a wiring during construction, we recommend getting all departures at a central switch or an electrical panel (per floor for example).

This will make it easier to use a radio control (Zwave), a relay controlled (IPX).

Incompatibility

You can use any brand of equipment as long as the installation is wire and respects the same voltage/amperage.

Beware, if you use a proprietary radio protocol of a particular seller (Somfy RTS, ID Bubbendorf, X2D Delta Dore, this are trademarks). It will not be possible to integrate the system, unless you have wired switch.

If there is a wire possibility to control the motor, you can automate with the addition of z-wave radio relay.

Technical details

To automate the opening of a gate, garage door or shutter, you must first know the command mode of your motor:

  • current for opening, current for closing (12 Volt, 24 Volt, 220 Volt, amperage)
  • opening pulse, closing pulse
  • unique pulse (often for shutters)

It is preferable to use relay pulses rather than using macros or rules from the eedomus box. Pulses are more responsive and reliable.

It is important to always maintain capability of manual operation of the gate or opening, particularly in case of loss of electrical power or for maintenance.

Partial opening of shutters requires calibration, which depends on the type of motor and its capabilities. This may be difficult to calibrate, you may need to consult the manufacturer/distributor of your equipment.

Caution

In case of opening from a distance (gates in particular), it is important to add security support such as cameras in order to verify that the opening (or closing).

Suggested order of shutter operations

Operations of a rolling shutter are suggested to follow this order:

  1. Incorporation of the module
  2. Connect module to the motor command
  3. Setting mono-stable (pulse) or bi-stable (see Z-Wave settings of your specific module)
  4. Verifying that the interrupter and the box are in good working order
  5. Calibration of the module (see Z-Wave settings of your specific module)

Note: calibration consists of calculating the % of the opening on the top of the rolling shutter.
